The Office of the Chief Economist provides publically accessible data on resources, energy, innovation and industry. These high-value resources allow the public to build upon our datasets in new and innovative ways.

Our publication and research papers also help bring these data sets to life and enhance discoverability. We also have access to a range of statistical assets such as the Business Longitudinal Analysis Data Environment (BLADE) and the Management Capability Survey that are currently under development.

The interactive Industry and Innovation Map identifies the location of industry and innovation activities across Australia over time.

  • Resources and Energy Quarterly
    The March 2018 Resources and Energy Quarterly has been released. This edition updates the estimates and outlook for Australia’s resources and energy production and exports for 2016–17 to 2022–23. Australia’s resources and energy export earnings are forecast to increase to $230 billion in 2017–18 — a record high.

    The Industry Monitor has been updated. This interactive dashboard provides a consolidated source of high-level data and economic indicators relevant to the portfolio’s interests. The Monitor lets users interact with the data in a way that suits their needs.

  • Australian Innovation System Report
    The Australian Innovation System Report 2017 explores the high-growth firm (HGF) phenomenon in Australia. The report suggests that innovation has a positive effect on firm growth. Across all firms, product innovation lifts turnover growth by 3.3 percentage points. There has been considerable policy interest in HGFs as potential vehicles for job creation and income growth.

    ​This monthly publication collects national and state statistical information on sales of petroleum products, exports and imports of petroleum products and crude oil, production of crude oil and condensate, refinery input and output, and stocks of petroleum products.
