How Regional Universities Drive Regional Innovation

Australia’s regional universities play an important role in regional innovation. Case studies have highlighted instances of impact, however there has been little focused analysis on strategies and mechanisms that regional universities employ to underpin performance in this area.

By surveying the senior management of regional universities and other organisations in Australia and internationally, this study has qualitatively assessed how regional universities drive regional innovation. It compiles a catalogue of strategies and mechanisms that are employed by these organisations across thirteen focus areas.

In doing so, this report highlights directions that might increase the impact of regional universities on regional innovation.
