The Office of the Chief Economist produces publications on industry policy, innovation, energy and resources and  programme evaluation. Publications meet professionally accepted standards for method and quality.

A rigorous clearance process for all outputs is maintained to ensure the integrity and quality of the research. Work is peer reviewed as appropriate by experts inside and outside the department.

  • Resources and Energy Quarterly
    The March 2018 Resources and Energy Quarterly has been released. This edition updates the estimates and outlook for Australia’s resources and energy production and exports for 2016–17 to 2022–23. Australia’s resources and energy export earnings are forecast to increase to $230 billion in 2017–18 — a record high.

  • Industry Insights
    Industry Insights provides analysis of major economic factors affecting Australia. The publication will have several releases each year and replaces the Australian Industry Report with a shorter and more frequent format. Topics this year will include structural change, Australia’s changing place in a global economy and the future of productivity.

  • Industry Monitor
    The Industry Monitor has been updated. This interactive dashboard provides a consolidated source of high-level data and economic indicators relevant to the portfolio’s interests. The Monitor lets users interact with the data in a way that suits their needs.
