Status of Growth Centre
Not-for-profit entity established. Operational in early 2017.
The Australian Cyber Security Growth Network (ACSGN) is the industry-led and not-for-profit company responsible for delivering the activities of the Cyber Security Growth Centre. The Cyber Security Growth Centre was first announced as part of the Australian Government's National Innovation and Science Agenda on 7 December 2015, and is a key measure of Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy.
The Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, The Hon Greg Hunt MP, and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister on Cyber Security, the Hon Dan Tehan MP, announced the establishment of the Australian Cyber Security Growth Network Ltd (ACSGN) on 5 December 2016. Beginning its operations in early 2017, the ACSGN will bring together businesses and researchers to develop the next generation of products and services that are needed to live and work securely in our increasingly connected world.
According to Lloyds of London, cybercrime costs the world about USD$400 billion annually. With no signs of cyber threats abating, the global cyber security market is expected to grow from about AU$100 billion in 2015, to more than AU$200 billion by 2020.
The ACSGN will have a national footprint and will work closely with Australia’s cyber security sector to take advantage of this growing global market for cyber security products and services. It will operate out of several nodes established across Australia, which will provide a way of connecting the many fragmented cyber security activities and bridge capability and expertise across the country.
