About

METS Ignited is the industry-led, not-for-profit Growth Centre for the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) sector. The METS Ignited mission is to strengthen Australia’s position as a global hub for mining innovation, and enhance the global competitive advantage of the Australian METS industry. METS Ignited was launched in October 2015 and is chaired by Ms Elizabeth Lewis-Gray.

METS Ignited in action

METS Ignited launched its 10-year Sector Competitiveness Plan (SCP) in November 2016 at the International Mining and Resources Conference in Melbourne. The SCP sets out a long-term strategy to strengthen the competitive advantage of the Australian METS sector, including five interconnected work programs:

  • Aligned Strategy – the sector has a compelling vision and strategy that aligns to and enhances the growth needs of the METS, mining and research industries.
  • Global Brand – the Australian METS brand and value proposition is recognised globally, highly valued and priced at a premium.
  • Internationally Competitive – supply chain participation is facilitated by global partnerships, world class clusters and the active support of capital markets that is needed to compete internationally.
  • Collaborative and Innovative – collaboration across the sector has accelerated the rate of both innovation and commercialisation.
  • Skilled for 2026 – the skills base enhances business capability and growth, and ensures the sector’s sustainability and leadership in a rapidly transforming technology landscape.

METS Ignited aims to improve collaboration and strengthen relationships between Australian METS firms, mining companies, researchers, investors and government. To assist with relationship-building, METS Ignited have agreements or arrangements with the Queensland Department of State Development, CRC Ore, Austmine, CSIRO, the Australian Mines and Metals Association, consulting company VCI, CORE Innovation Hub and the Australian Technology Network.

METS Ignited has initiated a number of industry activities, including ongoing project funding rounds to promote innovation and collaboration, an accelerator pilot to increase METS product commercialisation rates, and a thought leadership program of strategy-building seminars and masterclasses. METS Ignited has also provided sponsorship and support to major industry events, including International Mining and Resources Conferences, the Austmine Mining Innovation Conference and Exhibition, and Unearthed Solutions resource data hackathons.
