METS Ignited in action
METS Ignited launched its 10 year Sector Competitiveness Plan (SCP) in November 2016. The SCP sets out a long-term strategy to strengthen the competitive advantage of the Australian METS sector.
METS Ignited aim to improve collaboration and strengthen relationships between Australian METS, mining companies and researchers. To assist with this development METS Ignited have agreements or arrangements with the Queensland Department of State Development, CRC Ore, Austmine, CSIRO, the Australian Mines and Metals Association (AMMA), Consulting Company VCI, and CORE Resources Hub. These working arrangements are focused on leveraging knowledge, partnering on strategic initiatives, and harnessing combined networks to drive collaboration across METS, mining, research and Government. METS Ignited attended the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC), in 2015 and 2016. Attendance was used to facilitate new and enhance existing networks across the sector. METS Ignited was a major sponsor in 2016 with the CEO, Chair and General Managers participating in plenary and panel discussions.
METS Ignited is working to increase engagement and collaboration between the METS sector and mining industry through its sponsorship of the Austmine Innovation Mentoring Program. The program, dedicated exclusively to the METS sector, will build skills in areas such as commercialisation and accessing supply chains to enhance industry capability.
METS Ignited has launched an industry-wide Expression of Interest process to access matched-funding to encourage industry to collaborate on projects which target opportunities to the METS Sector Competitiveness Plan(SCP), or to establish METS Living Lab nodes/sandpits.
In 2016/17, METS Ignited is making available approximately $3.6 million of funding and is looking for dollar-for-dollar matched investment for collaborative, industry-led projects with clear commercialisation applications and address at least one of the key themes in the SCP.
