The Government recognises industry’s important role in achieving Australia’s broader economic objectives. As part of this partnership, the department offers a range of initiatives to enable industry to grow, increase its productivity and compete globally. Some of these initiatives include:
- Australian Industry Participation (AIP)
Initiatives to provide more opportunities for Australian industry to supply goods and services to major public and private projects.
- Industry Growth Centres Initiative
The Industry Growth Centres Initiative (the Initiative) is the centrepiece of the Government’s new industry policy direction and part of the Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda.
- Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda
The Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda was announced on 14 October 2014. It focuses on providing the right economic incentives to enable businesses, big and small, to grow. It contains immediate reforms which will boost competitiveness and a range of proposals for public consultation.
- Industry-research collaboration
Businesses and researchers benefit when they work together.
- IP Toolkit
Information about the department's work on the development of an IP Toolkit.
- Major Projects Approval Agency
The Major Projects Approval Agency is a single point of entry into the Australian Government for businesses considering major project investments in Tasmania or the Northern Territory.
- National Innovation and Science Agenda
The National Innovation and Science Agenda was announced on 7 December 2015. It is a forward looking suite of initiatives to position Australia to harness opportunities and embrace new ideas in innovation and science.
- Securing Australia’s Manufacturing Future
$155 million Growth Fund to help industry adjust to the wind-down of car manufacturing in Australia.
- Trade policy, standards and conformance
Information about the department’s work on Free Trade Agreements and technical and product standards.
- University Precincts
The Government is looking to further improve industry-research collaboration in order to drive Australia's productivity performance, international competitiveness and innovation capacity.
