The NMI and MSL are the peak measurement bodies for Australia and New Zealand. The 2 organisations will work together on mutually decided projects and exchange knowledge in measurement science.
The new arrangement follows on from a memorandum of understanding (MoU), first signed in 2007. It provides a framework for continued scientific engagement between New Zealand and Australia in areas including:
- length
- mass
- pressure
- flow
- radiometry
- nanometrology
- electrical measurement.
The arrangement also extends to cover mutual interests in supporting the Indo-Pacific and Pacific regions as well as First Nations and Māori engagement.
The renewal of the arrangement shows the commitment of both organisations to promoting scientific excellence and innovation through international collaboration. It will remain in effect for the next 5 years.
NMI is a division of the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. MSL is New Zealand's national metrology institute, a subsidiary of Callaghan Innovation.
