Grants for innovation, commercialisation, pilot and demonstration projects will support early-stage development of Australia’s green iron, steel, alumina and aluminium sectors.

These industries are already heavily part of Australia’s economy and support around 200,00 direct and indirect Australian jobs, with annual exports valued at $153 billion. New technologies have the power to build competitive new industries and unlock commercial-scale production of green metals. By using Australian ores and renewable resources these industries can create secure, skilled and well-paid jobs for our future.

The funding builds on the government’s new $2 billion Green Aluminium Production Credit and $1 billion Green Iron Investment Fund

The Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund also supports $500 million for clean energy technology manufacturing and $250 million for low carbon liquid fuels.
