National Radioactive Waste Management Facility: Statement on Consultative Committee observer protocol

We have issued a response to media coverage about the Consultative Committee observer protocol.
Media release

Regarding the Consultative Committee observer protocol, the following can be attributed to a spokesperson for the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science:

‘These protocols were put in place in April 2018 after four months of consultation between the department and the Kimba and Barndioota consultative committees,’ said the spokesperson.

‘They were designed to allow open, fair and honest conservation between all participants, and they have not prevented general note-taking at previous meetings.

‘The protocol is managed by the committees, and the clauses on note-taking are designed to protect confidential, commercial or security-related details.

‘At the committee meetings next week, the department will discuss the protocols and clarifying the clause on note-taking.’
