Growth Centre: Advanced Manufacturing (AMGC)
Case study from: Growth Centres Success Stories
Brisbane-based firm iOrthotics manufactures custom-made, 3D printed orthotics. With help from the Industry Growth Centres Initiative, the business digitalised its processes and is expanding into global markets.
Business in focus: iOrthotics
iOrthotics designs and manufactures custom-made orthotic devices. Made specifically for a patient’s feet, each orthotic device is prescribed by a Podiatrist.
As a business in one of Australia’s growth sectors, iOrthotics sought assistance from the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC). AMGC assisted with funding and facilitated connections with collaboration partners. Collaborating with the University of Queensland, iOrthotics learned new digital nesting techniques aimed at increased productivity and material cost savings. The company also worked with HP and local machine supplier evok3d to adopt HP’s Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing technology.
iOrthotics is now expanding its Australian operations. Its market leading technology means new ways for better patient outcomes both here in Australia and abroad.
iOrthotics expects to grow its current exports to around 15,000 devices as a result of digitising and upscaling its manufacturing process. AMGC’s support could help generate up to 13 skilled jobs and assist the company to grow its sales revenue from an estimated $940,000 in 2018 to $2.82 million in 2019.
iOrthotics is just one of the many businesses across six sectors unlocking its success with Australia’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative. If your business has unrealised potential, now could be your time.
