Business in focus: Mincham Aviation
Mincham Aviation was established in 1996, and has developed a range of aerospace and defence equipment including aerial delivery systems, UAVs, and military lifters. The company has won prestigious aerospace contracts internationally including working on the Triton and Chinook platforms.
Mincham is now participating in an Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre project which is helping manufacturing firms build their digital capabilities in order to participate in global supply chains for future naval shipbuilding projects.
The Virtual Shipyard Program is a partnership between the Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre, Innodev, the South Australian Government, and Dassault Systèmes.
The Virtual Shipyard Program is a pilot training program that Mincham Aviation and 13 other SMEs are participating in to gain the skills necessary to integrate into digitally-enabled global supply chains. The firms also receive mentored assistance to apply those skills on real manufacturing projects within their own companies.
The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia are also building training curricula based on the pilot. This will help ensure a stream of digitally literate workers to meet the future skills needs of Australia’s advanced manufacturers.
The project will provide the Australian manufacturing sector with a tangible demonstration of how increased digital capability can help exploit global value chain opportunities in multi-billion-dollar defence, mining, water and energy industries.
