Let our 2024 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science recipients inspire you. Nominate someone you know for the 2025 prizes by 17 December 2024.

By nominating an inspiring scientist, research-based innovator or science teacher for the 2025 Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science you are taking the first critical step. No-one can be recognised unless they are nominated.

Nominations are open now for the following prizes:

  • 5 science prizes spanning diverse career stages and disciplines, including science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM)
  • 2 science teaching prizes, for teachers who inspire students to engage in STEM and encourage them to consider a STEM career.

By nominating someone you are showing them how much you value their efforts and achievements.

Who can nominate

Leaders, peers and colleagues across the science and innovation sectors, and the science, technology, engineering and mathematics teaching communities can nominate.

Who can you nominate

A nominee is someone who:

  • can inspire Australians to become more engaged in STEM
  • has made a meaningful contribution to science, research-based innovation or science teaching
  • is an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia.

You can nominate a scientist or research-based innovator from:

  • early, mid or later career stages
  • a range of different fields
  • academia, research or industry sectors.

You can nominate a primary or secondary school teacher who teaches science, technologies, engineering or mathematics. They don’t need to be a specialist in these subject areas.

We strongly encourage nominations for people from diverse backgrounds. The prizes can reflect our diverse community if there are more nominations for:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • women and gender diverse people
  • multicultural Australians
  • members of the LGBTQIA+ community
  • people living with disabilities
  • neurodivergent people.
