This research paper looks at the impact of participation in the South Australian Innovation and Investment Funds (IIFs) on firm performance.
Within Australia the IIFs are an example of targeted action. While the aims of these funds vary depending on circumstances, common themes include:
- creating sustainable employment opportunities
- encouraging private investment in regions
- diversifying the regional industrial base.
Until recently, analysis of the impacts of IIFs has not been possible due to limitations in data. Using a matching estimator, this paper finds that the South Australian IIFs had modest positive additional impact on aspects of firm performance.
