Joining a department-hosted Microsoft Teams meeting

This guide is for external attendees that are joining a department-hosted meeting using Microsoft Teams.

You have been invited to join a Microsoft Teams meeting hosted by the department.

Microsoft Teams is an online meeting solution. Following the steps below will let you to join using:

  • a laptop, tablet, or mobile phone with the Microsoft Teams application
  • a web browser
  • a video conference device.

How to join a meeting

There are 3 ways to join a meeting;

All you need to join a Microsoft Teams meeting is a link.

To join your meeting on a laptop or mobile device select Click here to join the meeting in your meeting invite. 

You will be taken to a page where you can choose to either download the desktop app or join on the web.

If you already have the Microsoft Teams app installed on your device, the meeting should open within the app automatically.

Join using a web browser

If you do not have the Microsoft Teams app installed select the option to Use the web app instead to join your meeting in a web browser.

Select your video and audio options

You can now select your video and audio options.

Join the meeting

You can now select join now and enter the Microsoft Teams meeting.

How to join on a video conferencing device

You can join a department-hosted meeting using your videoconference enabled devices. Meeting details can be found in your meeting invitation.

To join your meeting from a videoconferencing device:

  1. Select the call feature.
  2. Dial or enter the address provided on your invitation (for example, teams@vid.industry.gov.au).
  3. Enter the unique Video Conference ID from the invitation.
  4. You will join the meeting.

How to join a meeting by phone (audio only)

You can join some meetings by calling a phone number.

To join by phone:

  1. Dial the phone number in your invitation*.
  2. When prompted, enter the Phone Conference ID from the invitation, followed by the # key.
  3. You will join the meeting with audio only.

*Note: The number in your invitation may not be local to you. Select Find a local number to get one that is.
