Permits have been awarded as part of the 2021 Offshore Greenhouse Gas Storage Acreage Release.
As part of the acreage release, the Australian Government consulted with the public, governments, stakeholders and industry on 5 areas nominated for carbon capture and storage assessment.
Two permits have been announced by the government as being awarded. They are located off the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
The awardees are:
- a joint venture between INPEX, Woodside Energy and Total Energies for an area in the Bonaparte Basin
- Woodside Energy for an area in the Browse Basin.
More assessment permit awards for the 2021 release will be announced soon.
Bidding for the 2022 Offshore Greenhouse Gas Storage Acreage Release will open later this year.
