Elevate: Boosting Diversity in STEM is one of many programs we support to increase diversity in STEM in Australia.

Since launching the $41.2 million program with our department in 2022, ATSE have welcomed new program partners. Defence Science and Technology Group and Snowy Hydro are also investing in the program.

2025 scholarship recipients are attending 36 universities across Australia, and include:

  • 156 students starting STEM undergraduate degrees
  • 90 scholars pursuing postgraduate STEM research
  • 10 students building leadership qualifications.

In addition to financial assistance, the program provides wrap-around support to encourage scholars to pursue and stay in STEM careers. This will contribute to our goals of growing Australia’s STEM workforce. Australia needs a diverse STEM workforce to help deliver on our national priorities, including the renewable energy transition, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence.

160 scholars have already benefitted from Elevate’s unique offerings, with retention rates well above the industry average.
