Australia attended the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit and Ministerial Council in Belgrade, Serbia on 3 and 4 December 2024.
GPAI members including Australia supported the Belgrade Declaration showing their commitment to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) AI Principles. This support will make sure the benefits of AI are shared across the globe.
The summit is the first since the GPAI and OECD formed an integrated partnership in July 2024. The event focused on advancing AI research and policy guidance for responsible and human-centric AI. It brought together:
- member countries
- global AI experts
- international groups
- industry leaders and
- academia.
The declaration follows Australia’s domestic agenda and commits GPAI members to support and promote safe, secure and trustworthy AI across the system lifecycle. Making sure there is a credible international evidence base of research and analysis on AI issues aligns with our priority for inclusive AI adoption.
Australia’s support for GPAI and the OECD builds on the strength of our international AI engagement as:
- a member of the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group
- a signatory to the Bletchley and Seoul Declarations on AI
- an adoptee of the signatory to the Global Digital Compact.
We look forward to working with all GPAI members to advance the partnership’s goal of making AI human-centric, ethical, rights-respecting and inclusive.
