Country of origin labelling for complementary medicines: have your say

Give feedback to help the complementary medicine sector regain access to the Australian Made, Australian Grown (AMAG) logo. Consultation is open until 30 October.

We are seeking your feedback on options to address the eligibility of Australian manufactured complementary medicines to make ‘made in Australia’ claims and use the Australian Made, Australian Grown (AMAG) logo.

The AMAG logo is a widely-recognised Country of Origin Labelling (CoOL) symbol that helps consumers navigate Australian made products. Changes to the CoOL laws in February 2017 affected the way manufacturers access the AMAG logo. These changes focused on the food industry where it is mandatory for priority-foods to display the logo. However, all other products and goods, including complementary medicines, must adhere to the same CoOL laws.

This means that some complementary medicines no longer meet the logo’s eligibility and consumers have lost some clarity over the origin of products. The complementary medicine sector has also advised government that this may impact the growth of the industry. Feedback to this consultation will help shape the government’s decision on the best solution for all stakeholders.

Read the discussion paper and give feedback on our Consultation hub.

The consultation is open until 30 October 2019.
