Dr Cathy Foley reappointed as Australia’s Chief Scientist

Dr Foley will continue to advise government on science and technology priorities.

Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM will continue her role as Australia’s Chief Scientist. Dr Foley’s reappointment will start 1 January 2024 and last until 31 December 2024.

As Australia’s Chief Scientist, Dr Foley gives independent, evidence-based advice to the Australian Government. She works across the science community, industry and government, to lift Australia’s capability in technology, science and research. 

Dr Foley has spent the last 3 years giving advice to government, including on the topics of: 

  • quantum
  • STEM career pathways
  • semiconductors
  • critical technologies.

Dr Foley will continue to support Australia’s potential in science and research, focusing on critical and emerging technologies.
