NMI’s compliance activities ensure consumers get what they pay for and that businesses operate on a level playing field.
NMI’s 2024–25 trade measurement inspection programs will focus on:
- bakery products
- hardware and building supplies
- frozen seafood
- supporting first nations businesses
- supporting regional and remote communities
- international foods.
During the bakeries audit from 26-30 August, trade measurement officers will undertake more than 300 trader audits nationally across retail, wholesale and online bakery outlets.
Products checked include breads, pastries, doughs, cakes, biscuits, pies and flans, along with bakery ingredients such as flour.
As part of the visits, trade measurement inspectors will check:
- pre-packed items, both for measurement accuracy and that they meet labelling requirements
- measurement instrument accuracy and compliance
- trading practices.
NMI’s trade measurement programs also respond to reports from the public. For further information or to report suspected measurement issues, contact the national trade measurement helpline on 1300 686 664 or infotm@measurement.gov.au.
