Australia has secured onshore manufacturing agreements for two COVID-19 vaccines should trials prove successful.
A $1.7 billion supply and production agreement is between the Australian Government and:
- Oxford University and AstraZeneca
- University of Queensland and CSL
It will provide 84.8 million doses to the Australian population and be almost entirely made in Melbourne, with early access to 3.8 million doses in January and February 2021.
If both vaccines prove safe and effective and meet all the necessary regulatory requirements, they will be available free to every Australian in 2021.
