Women in Resources morning tea event in Dili

Women from Australia and Timor-Leste shared stories and strengthened ties during a morning tea event on 14 November in Dili.

Hosted by Timor-Leste Australia Energy Partnership (TLAEP), over 45 people attended from Timor‑Leste’s resources and energy sector and our department.

The event started with opening remarks from ANP President Gualdino da Silva and Australia’s Ambassador to Timor‑Leste, Caitlin Wilson and the Secretary of State for Equality Elvina Sousa Carvalho. All the speakers welcomed the event and its role in deepening cooperation between Timor-Leste and Australia.

Attendees also heard from colleagues about the challenges they faced as women in the resources sector and assumptions made about them due to their gender. The event finished with networking opportunities and a panel Q&A session.

The benefits of this event include:

  • promoting gender equality in Timor-Leste’s energy sector
  • encouraging women to pursue careers in resources
  • creating and strengthening networks important to career progression
  • supporting Timor-Leste’s economic development through strengthening their workforce.

TLAEP’s main objective is to deepen trade and investment links between Timor-Leste and Australia. It supports economic development by building stronger bilateral relations in the energy sector.
