The Critical Minerals Facilitation Office is taking the lead on a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India on critical minerals.

Under the MoU, both countries will explore opportunities to increase trade, investment and R&D in critical minerals.

The MoU identifies specific areas where Australia and India will work together to meet the demand for critical minerals for the future economy. This will include:

  • information-sharing between both countries
  • connecting research institutions and universities
  • collaborating on actions to support stable, secure and resilient supply chains for critical and strategic minerals

As the Australian Government’s central coordination point to help grow Australia’s critical minerals sector, the Office will partner with Indian counterparts to progress work under the agreement.

The announcement was a key outcome of the virtual meeting between Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting elevated the relationship between the two nations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
