Mask testing centre means faster protection for health workers

Manufacturers will use the mask testing centre to ensure personal protective equipment meets strict Australian standards.

A new Melbourne-based testing facility allows medical mask-makers to test their products locally.

This means more rapid delivery of Australian-standard protection for frontline health workers fighting COVID-19.

Before the CSIRO facility opened on 6 August 2020, samples were sent overseas for testing. This caused production delays.

The National Association of Testing Authorities-accredited facility is now open testing masks and mask materials for:

  • breathability
  • blood penetration; and
  • bacterial filtration efficiency
