Australian scientist awarded APEC Aspire prize for food technology research

Australian research scientist Dr Jessica Bogard has been awarded the 2021 APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE prize).

New Zealand hosted the virtual award ceremony on Wednesday 25 August 2021. It was part of the 18th APEC Policy Partnership for Science, Technology and Innovation meeting.

The research theme for the 2021 prize was ‘Diverse Knowledge for a Sustainable Future’. This theme focused on researcher insights from indigenous and ethnic minority cultures and communities. These insights are helping to inform new frontiers in science, technology and innovation.

Dr Bogard won the ASPIRE Prize for her work on local food technology and nutrition innovation.

Dr Bogard is an Australian public health nutrition scientist working at CSIRO. She was one of 12 international candidates and is the 3rd Australian recipient of the prize.

The annual ASPIRE Prize recognises young scientists from APEC member economies who have demonstrated a commitment to:

  • excellence in scientific research
  • cooperation with scientists from other APEC member economies.
