The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies contribute to a large portion of global trade and gross domestic product.
Over the past 30 years the region has experienced considerable economic growth. This growth is expected to slow because of socioeconomic inequality, complex environmental problems, trade challenges, policy uncertainty and digital disruption.
Earth and marine observing (EMO) helps us understand and respond to these challenges. EMO is the collection, analysis and interpretation of information on the Earth’s natural systems. Across the APEC region, EMO data can be used to inform and drive better government policy and business decisions.
This report, for the first time:
- calculates the current economic value of EMO to APEC economies
- estimates the potential value of EMO by the year 2030.
