Australian exports have contributed significantly to our prosperity. Exporting is a driver of economic growth and helps our economy remain competitive.
This research paper finds that the worst job losses have been in industries where relatively few Australian firms export at any scale. Industries where jobs have help up best are those facing relatively limited international competition. For example:
- food and drinks manufacturing
- industries where a significant proportion of production is exported, like minerals and metals.
