There are 2 release areas in the Bonaparte Basin, offshore Northern Australia. They are both located in the Petrel Sub-basin.

  • GHG21-1 overlaps with Oceanic Shoals Marine Park Multiple Use Zone (IUCN VI).
  • GHG21-2 overlaps with Oceanic Shoals Marine Park Multiple Use Zone (IUCN VI).

The following areas overlap with biologically important areas.

  • GHG21-1 overlaps with flatback turtle, green turtle, loggerhead turtle and olive ridley turtle habitats.
  • GHG21-2 overlaps with lesser crested tern, flatback turtle, green turtle, loggerhead turtle and olive ridley turtle habitats.

The following areas overlap with key ecological features.

  • GHG21-1 overlaps with the pinnacles of the Bonaparte Basin and the carbonate bank and terrace system of the Sahul Shelf and Van Diemen Rise.
  • GHG21-2 overlaps with the pinnacles of the Bonaparte Basin and the carbonate bank and terrace system of the Sahul Shelf.

Defence restricted areas

The following areas overlap with defence restricted areas.

  • GHG21-1 overlaps with the North Australia Exercise Area, the Darwin Air Weapons Range (Central & West) and restricted airspace.
  • GHG21-2 overlaps with the North Australia Exercise Area, the Darwin Air Weapons Range (West) and restricted airspace.

Wells within the area

You may be required to remediate a well to ensure safe injection and permanent storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) into a storage formation.
