There are 2 release areas in the Northern Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia. They are both are located in the Dampier Sub-basin.

Maps show the release areas in bathymetric detail. They also include other permit locations, known petroleum accumulations and wells. Shapefiles show the areas in vector format for geographic information system (GIS) software.

Marine environment
The following areas overlap with biologically important areas.
- GHG21-4 overlaps with whale shark, wedge-tailed shearwater and pygmy blue whale habitat.
- GHG21-5 overlaps with flatback turtle, whale shark, wedge-tailed shearwater, humpback whale and pygmy blue whale habitat.
The following areas overlap with key ecological features.
- GHG21-4 overlaps with the Glomar shoals and the ancient coastline at 125 metre depth contour.
- GHG21-5 overlaps with the Glomar shoals.
Wells within the area
You may be required to remediate a well to ensure safe injection and permanent storage of carbon dioxide (CO2) into a storage formation.
The gazette notice inviting applications lists the wells located within GHG21-4 and GHG21-5.
