Exercise Ningaloo Challenge 2017: evaluation report

Date published:
1 July 2018

In September 2017 our department took part in Exercise Ningaloo Challenge, an opportunity to test our response arrangements in the unlikely event of an offshore petroleum oil spill.

We activated the Offshore Petroleum Incident Coordination Committee (OPICC) and worked closely with representatives from 12 Australian Government departments, the Western Australian government and industry participants.

This report evaluates the outcomes of the exercise, including:

  • an overview of the exercise and its objectives
  • an assessment of the OPICC and our department’s performance
  • recommendations to improve our department’s offshore petroleum incident response arrangements
  • departmental analysis and options for continued improvement.
