Note: Due to the long lead times for this project, the majority of purchasing decisions are complete. Purchasing decisions are based on a fair and equitable evaluation of a supplier's capability and capacity – and their ability to progress in accordance with Toyota's long term business plans with preference generally given to vendors on Toyota’s preferred supplier list, many of which are Australian businesses
- Communication of the major facelift project
- Toyota has directly contacted capable Australian automotive industry participants and invited them to provide proposals to provide goods and services on the project.
- Toyota also uses industry associations and forums to promote the project and specific opportunities available to local industry. Examples include:
- Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI)
- Federation of Automotive Parts Manufacturers (FAPM)
- Australian Manufacturing Technology Institute Limited (AMTIL)
- SIRF Roundtables
- Communication of the SPCP
- The SPCP is open to established Toyota suppliers and the broader automotive supply chain network to support capability development.
- Membership is offered to suppliers who express an interest in the SPCP and commit to active participation in program activities.
4. Opportunities through all tiers of supply and in all stages of the project
- Major facelift
- Toyota expects all relevant Australian standards plus a range of ISO international standards to apply to the project. For example, all Original Equipment suppliers must be “Third Party” certified to ISO/TS 16949.
- Potential suppliers should refer to Toyota’s principles of supply (https://partner.toyota.com.au/public/supplying/index.html).
- In assessing the suitability of potential suppliers, Toyota considers factors including relevant experience within the Australian automotive industry, current commercial and technical capabilities, previous engagement for Toyota projects, and completion of Toyota’s induction processes.
- Toyota will advise contractors and subcontractors engaged on the project that Toyota is implementing an AIP Plan, will be provided with a copy of the Executive Summary and be encouraged to consider local industry where possible when making procurement decisions.
- SPCP
- In assessing the suitability of potential suppliers for the SPCP, Toyota considers factors such as value of buy, competitiveness, mindset and strategic importance to Toyota’s projects.
- The SPCP is also offered to selected non-automotive suppliers.
5. Opportunities for longer-term participation
- Through the SPCP, Toyota will work with suppliers to encourage local industry capability development and integration into global supply chains as required.
- Toyota will provide recommendations and references to contractors and suppliers to assist their responses to other opportunities.
- Toyota will provide supplier performance feedback to assist local industry to achieve continuous improvement in quality and competitiveness.
- Through its annual supplier awards, Toyota will provide its local supply base with an opportunity to be recognised both nationally and internationally for their achievements in areas such as safety, quality, design and TPS improvements.
6. Procedures and Resources
- As the AIP Plan is a contractual deliverable, this will be managed in accordance with Toyota’s Commonwealth Government reporting processes and compliance requirements.
