We have extended the closing date for award nominations from Sunday 23 July to Monday 31 July.

Nominations are now open for NMI’s annual measurement awards.

The awards recognise measurement-related achievements at a range of levels – from students to early career researchers to established researchers. This year, NMI will offer the following awards:

  • Barry Inglis Medal for sustained contributions to Australian metrology
  • NMI Measurement Impact award for measurement-related achievements demonstrating real-world impact
  • Measurement Achievement Encouragement Award (formerly the NMI Prize) for measurement-related achievements by early to mid-career professionals.
  • People’s Choice Award.

NMI and Questacon are also excited to be offering a new joint award for school students - the NMI-Questacon Student Measurement Award.

In 2023, we welcome applications for the Measurement Achievement Encouragement Award that align with the National Science Week theme of ‘Innovation: Powering Future Industries’, or with a trade and industrial focus. In future years we’ll highlight different measurement fields to encourage greater diversity.

Dr Bruce Warrington, CEO and Chief Metrologist, will announce the 2023 measurement award winners at a special online event during National Science Week on Friday 18 August. The audience will determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award by vote at the event.

Each winner will receive a trophy and a prize ranging in value from $250 to $2000.

Applicants should be willing to take part in this event, either live or by pre-recorded video. Finalists will receive invitations by 11 August if selected.
