Australia attended the 6th Global Partnership on AI (GPAI) Ministerial Council in New Delhi on 3 and 4 July 2024. At that meeting, Australia supported the creation of an integrated partnership between the GPAI and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The partnership will work to implement safe and responsible AI. To use the opportunities presented by AI, we must work together to build an ecosystem that supports safe and responsible AI. This system must build trust, be community-centric and help drive adoption.
As both an OECD member and a founding member of GPAI, Australia looks forward to working with this new partnership. We hope to inform our AI policy through learning from GPAI and OECD experts.
Australia’s support for GPAI and the OECD on AI builds on our membership of the Hiroshima AI Process Friends Group. Australia is also a signatory to the Bletchley and Seoul Declarations on AI.
GPAI is a multi-stakeholder partnership of 29 countries. The partnership with the OECD now brings the number up to 44 countries.
The 2024 GPAI New Delhi Declaration announces and affirms GPAI member support to integrate GPAI into the OECD structure.
