Australia and the United Kingdom agree to targeted collaboration under the Australia-UK Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership. We and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) led the Australia-UK Cyber and Critical Technology Partnership discussions on 5 and 6 September 2024.

Australia and the UK formed the partnership in 2022. The recent sessions built on our existing relationship to forge a renewed plan of collaboration focused on artificial intelligence, quantum and online safety.

The sessions brought together staff from our department and DFAT with counterparts from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). We will meet separately with colleagues from the UK’s Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

The meetings were chaired by:

  • Anthony Murfett, Head of Division, Technology and Digital, Department of Industry, Science and Resources, Australia
  • Brendan Dowling, Ambassador Critical Technology and Cyber Affairs, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Australia
  • Will Middleton, Cyber Director, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, United Kingdom
  • Nicole Gregory, Head, International Tech Department, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, United Kingdom.

Cooperation on cyber security and critical technologies is an essential part of the modern UK-Australia relationship. We look forward to working with UK colleagues to deepen our science, innovation and technology partnerships.
