The NMI wants your feedback on their proposal to adopt and modify the latest version of OIML Recommendation 126 Evidential breath analysers.

EBAs help measure alcohol concentration in exhaled human breath. EBAs are used to enforce compliance with road and maritime safety laws and other alcohol laws.

Your feedback will help NMI decide how to modify and adopt this recommendation as Australia’s pattern approval standard for measuring instruments of this type. NMI’s approach will support industry and the community by:

  • updating Australia’s requirements with international best practice
  • providing confidence in EBAs use into the future
  • aligning requirements with our trading partners
  • giving manufacturers and suppliers of EBAs an even playing field.
