The Australian Government is now operating in line with Caretaker Conventions, pending the outcome of the 2025 federal election.
The Joint Standing Committee on Treaties enquired into the Convention establishing the SKA Observatory (SKAO), as part of a treaty review.
The SKAO is the governing body of the global SKA telescope project.
The Committee supported the Convention and recommended treaty action.
The Government agrees that ratifying the Convention is a crucial step in securing valuable co-hosting rights for the observatory.
