Innovation and Science Australia (ISA) has today welcomed the launch of the Australian Government’s Global Talent Scheme pilot which will help Australian businesses and start-ups to have improved access to highly skilled talent from overseas.
Chair of Innovation and Science Australia, Mr Bill Ferris AC, said, ‘High-growth businesses need access to cutting edge skills if they are to compete on the world stage, and these reforms will make Australia a more attractive career proposition for overseas specialists in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related fields.’
‘The ISA Board is pleased that the Government has listened and responded to concerns from the business and research community about the impact of visa system reforms in April 2017, which we highlighted in our 2030 Strategic Plan, Australia 2030: Prosperity through Innovation.’
‘Skilled immigration can act as a job multiplier, transferring cutting edge knowledge and talent into our innovation, science and research system to help it grow,’ Mr Ferris said.
The Government has worked closely with the relevant communities, as well as ISA, in the design of the Scheme. CEO of ISA, Dr Charlie Day, is a member of the Industry Advisory Group to the Global Talent Scheme pilot which was closely involved with the consultation process, and which will continue to monitor the progress of the pilot.
