The Chair of Innovation and Science Australia (ISA), Mr Andrew Stevens, today paid tribute to outgoing CEO Dr Charlie Day, who marks the end of his appointment with ISA on 14 February.

“On behalf of the ISA Board, I would like to acknowledge the outstanding contribution Charlie has made as CEO,” Mr Stevens said. “Charlie indicated to me last year that, after three years of commuting between Canberra and Melbourne, he wanted to return to Melbourne to be closer to his young family. Whilst we are sad to be losing his insights and leadership we look forward to seeing him contribute to Australian innovation from a new platform.”

As the inaugural CEO of the Office of Innovation and Science Australia, Dr Day played a key role in the development of ISA’s 2030 strategic plan, Australia 2030: Prosperity through Innovation, released in 2018, and has continued to work with stakeholders both inside and outside government to advance the development of Australia’s innovation ecosystem.

“It’s been a privilege to serve the Government in this important role over the past few years” said Dr Day. “The opportunity to work with and learn from the talented people we have in our innovation system has been one of the highlights of my career. I am also tremendously excited by the talent I see in the next generation of Australian innovators.”

OISA’s current Chief Operating Officer, Dr Kate Cameron, will provide interim leadership for the Office until a new permanent leader is appointed.

“At a time of concern about the strength of Australia’s economic growth, the need for innovation to drive greater competitiveness is as clear as ever. ISA looks forward to continuing our work with the Government to strengthen Australia’s performance as an innovative economy” said Mr Stevens.
