Strategic management in Australian firms

Strategic management is an important capability for Australian businesses.

This research draws on new data on Australian management practices to construct 4levels of strategic management:

  • low engagement
  • ad hoc
  • narrow focus
  • strategic.

The paper shows that Australian businesses with higher levels strategic management:

  • are more likely to be innovative, seek out collaborative opportunities and respond to supply chain issues
  • have higher levels of labour productivity.
